Herbal Endocrine System Support
Total Course Hours: 8
THESE WEBINARS WERE RECORDED IN JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2018.
Although the endocrine system can be intricate and complicated, herbs are our allies in shifting the body into hormonal harmony. In this webinar series, Maria will demystify the endocrine system, keying in on four common areas of concern: stress and the adrenals, blood sugar and the pancreas, the thyroid, and men and women’s hormone balance. You will see how interconnected the nervous-endocrine system is and how to approach seemingly complex cases with herbs as a primary agent of change.
Session 1: Introduction, Stress & Adrenals: Get a basic introduction to the endocrine system and hormone messengers, then delve into the HPA axis and how to regulate stress response with herbs (particularly nervines and adaptogens), diet, and lifestyle. One adaptogen does not fit all. Learn how to choose the best plants for your client.
Session 2: Blood Sugar & the Pancreas: Although we look to blood sugar and insulin balance when dealing with type 2 diabetes and metabolic disorders in particular, subtle imbalances can influence a range of health concerns including mood and cognitive issues, heart disease, cancer risk, inflammation and pain, and reproductive hormone imbalance. We will discuss the benefits of antioxidants, fiber-rich plants, hypoglycemics, and bitters alongside diet and lifestyle changes to profoundly impact diabetes risk as well as other imbalances.
Session 3: Thyroid Balance: Thyroid disease is on the rise, particularly in women, and the vast majority of thyroid imbalance has autoimmune origins. Learn how to support both the hormones and the immune system in both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid states including Hashimoto’s and Grave's. We will discuss a variety of promising herbs as well as the pros and cons of microminerals, food choices, and lifestyle.
Session 4: Men & Women’s Hormone Balance: Finally, we turn to the reproductive hormones and the herbs and lifestyle changes that help nudge gonads gone awry into happy glands. As the least essential body system, the reproductive system is easily affected by imbalances elsewhere in the body, including stress and blood sugar balance. We’ll key on specific adaptogens as well as more direct hormonal herbs for testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and oxytocin balance. These changes can help relieve difficult andropause and perimenopause transitions, PMS, BHP, PCOS, fertility, etc.
