7Song's Materia Medica Series is a comprehensive class led by herbalist 7Song, which draws from his clinical practice. Over the course of four weeks, this series will focus on the herbal medicines he commonly employs at the Ithaca Free Clinic. The class delves into various health conditions seen in the clinic, including mental health, digestive disturbances, gynecological issues, Lyme disease, undiagnosed conditions, pain management, arthritis, allergies, cardiovascular health, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and respiratory ailments.
During these 4 classes, 7Song will cover a range of 25-30 medicinal plants. Through case studies and examples, he will share how he incorporates these herbs into his clinical practice. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on ethical wildcrafting, herbal preparation methods, and applications of these plants. Some of the herbs covered include Anemone, Lobelia, Berberis species, Echinacea, Damiana, Kava, Prickly Ash, Elecampane, and Chamomile. This will be a practical class stemming from 7Song’s clinical experience. Additionally, it highlights the importance of community-centered herbal health care by highlighting the work done in free clinics.
